Vestdalsvatn is one of Egilssta\u00f0ir\u2019s Pearls, which refers to 30 stunning hiking trails in the region surrounding Egilssta\u00f0ir. A great trail for hiking which involves crossing Vestdalshei\u00f0i mountain range, from H\u00e9ra\u00f0 to Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Vestdalshei\u00f0i heath used to be a frequently travelled road. People walked along Gils\u00e1 river, across the heath, and into Vestdalurvalley.
A good choice involves starting the walk to Vestdalsvatn lake by the reservoir at Hei\u00f0arvatn lake (N65\u00b0 14,394- W14\u00b010,253) in Fjar\u00f0arhei\u00f0iheath and head north. This is a nice walk in rolling hills. When you get to Vestdalsvatn you can choose between three routes if you don\u00b4t want to take the same route back.
Down Vestdalur by a staked trail to Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur; down Gils\u00e1rdalur valley down towards Gils\u00e1rteigur farm (north of Ei\u00f0ar in Flj\u00f3tsdalsh\u00e9ra\u00f0) or go west of Bj\u00f3lfur mountain down to Stafdalur valley. The cylinder with the visitors\u2019 log book and stamp is where Gils\u00e1 river runs out from the lake. You will need to cross the river if you choose to walk from Fjar\u00f0arhei\u00f0i.<\/p>\n
