They are also known as \u201cThe Pearls of Egilssta\u00f0ir Area\u201d. The Local Touring Club in Flj\u00f3tsdalsh\u00e9ra\u00f0 has contributed most of the effort in marking the trails and publishing of the maps guiding hikers to all of the Pearls.<\/p>\n<h2>Hiking Treasures in\u00a0\u00a0Egilssta\u00f0ir Region<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cHiking treasures in Egilssta\u00f0ir region\u201d is the name chosen for 30 carefully selected walking trails and treasured destinations in the municipalities of Egilssta\u00f0ir and surroundings. The premises of the area covers about 10% of Iceland.<br \/> The destinations are waterfalls, lakes, creeks, canyons, small caves and inlets by the sea side. Yet, most of the trails include mountain tracks and peaks with a great view.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;3.29.3&#8243; width=&#8221;100%&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||18px|||&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.29.3&#8243;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/visitegilsstadir.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/hiking-treasures-Egilsstadir02.jpg&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.0&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2>Hiking lottery<\/h2>\n<p>At each destination a cylinder holds information on the site, a visitors\u2019 log to sign and a unique stamp made for each location.<br \/>Hikers can buy specially made cards to bring along on their hike and can be stamped at each destination.<br \/>The cards are sold at the Information Centre in Egilssta\u00f0ir, at the office of Local Touring Club in Tjarnar\u00e1s 8, 700 Egilsstadir or at Egilssta\u00f0astofaVisitor Center by the camping site.<br \/>That is how hikers can document their arrival to the sites, enter a lottery and possibly win rewards. To enter the lottery, one must have stamps from 9 of the destinations. Stamped cards can be handed in at the offices where they are sold. The time estimate includes the walk towards each destination and return to starting point. According to Icelandic legislation on the reservation of nature, all people can walk across and dwell on land untouched by farming or private residence without special permit.<br \/>Do keep in mind the landowners\u2019 wishes, walk along marked trails and respect farmers right regarding domestic animals and land for harvesting. Do remember to close gates and be careful with fences.<br \/>Do leave information about your planned hike, about your plan B, should problems arise, and about your approximate time of return. Every year the club organizes and offers a variety of tours and trips for its members. Scheduled information on the touring program can be found here on our website and in addition on The Icelandic Touring Association\u00b4s website.<\/p>\n<p>The Touring Club of Flj\u00f3tsdalsh\u00e9ra\u00f0 runs and operates seven huts and lodges with sleeping accomodations, some located in the mountains and others in secluded places in the inlets and fjords south of Borgarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur eystri &#8211; reaching as far as Sey\u00f0isf\u00f6r\u00f0ur.
