M\u00e6lifell ( N65’41.85-W15’17.98)<\/strong><\/p>\n

M\u00e6lifell is named in old records; i.e, as owned by the Hof church in Vilking \u0301s 1397 church register, in a similar register in 1570 and also the record of the 1641 visitation of Sk\u00e1lholt \u0301s bishop, Brynj\u00f3lfur. The farm is bordered by the rivers Sels\u00e1, Sel\u00e1 and Innri-Almennings\u00e1 and the mountains Bunga, Helgardalsfj\u00f6ll and Kistufell. The vegetation around M\u00e6lifell is rich and plentiful, valued as summer pasture for 3-400 sheep. The 1849 farm valuation says the pasture rental fee was 40 fish. M\u00e6lifell was listed as a new farm, settled in 1854 by Arngr\u00edmur J\u00f3sefsson though the legal permisson wasn \u0301t granted until Jan. 26th 1856. He felt he had the right to tithe- and tax-free status due to a clause in the 1176 regulation for new farmlands, but was denied because the farm had been in use before and the credit already applied. M\u00e6lifell was farmed off and on until 1906 when the craftsman P\u00e1ll J\u00f3nsson and his wife Margr\u00e9t Er\u00edksd\u00f3ttir left.<\/p>\n
