Arnarvatn\/Sk\u00e1lam\u00f3r (N65\u00b035.29-W15\u00b024.05)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The large hollow called Brunahvammskvos contains both the Arnarvatn farm site (420 m above sea level) and, on the Vopnafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur side of the hollow Arnarvatn lake. This hollow lies below the slopes of K\u00e1lffell to the east and Brunahvammsh\u00e1ls and S\u00falendur to the south. The first farmers at Arnarvatn, from 1867, were Sigurbj\u00f6rg Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir and J\u00f3n J\u00f3nsson. The farm was abandoned in 1935. For centuries, Arnarvatn was by the main trail to Vopnafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur for people coming from M\u00f6\u00f0rudalur and the northern part of J\u00f6kuldalshei\u00f0i. Nowadays, one can walk to the ruins from the old road to Vopnafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur either from the farm K\u00e1lffell, which requires crossing a small watercourse next to the farm site, or via a dam at the lower end of the lake. While that route allows for driving to the dam and indeed all the way to the farm. It is worthwhile walking the whole distance, going along the lake to enjoy the tranquility and observe the birds. Drinking water at the spring which is towards the highlands from the ruins is also a nice idea, and there is a shelter used by those rounding up sheep on Haukssta\u00f0ahei\u00f0i.<\/p>\n

Yst \u00ed kvosinni er samnefnt vatn. Kvosina myndar a\u00f0 austan K\u00e1lffell en \u00ed su\u00f0ri Brunahvammsh\u00e1ls og S\u00falendur gn\u00e6fa yfir. Frumb\u00fdlingar voru J\u00f3n J\u00f3nsson og Sigurbj\u00f6rg Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir 1867. Fyrrum var Arnarvatn \u00ed alfaralei\u00f0 fr\u00e1 M\u00f6\u00f0rudal og nor\u00f0anver\u00f0ri J\u00f6kuldalshei\u00f0i til Vopnafjar\u00f0ar.
