Located 180 m above sea level, Foss is thought to be a very old farmstead and originally formed from land previously belonging to the Bustarfell estate. The same family lived at Foss almost continuously from 1800 until they finally deserted it in 1947. Running through the narrow, steep-sided valley, the Hofsá river has cut a gully a short distance below the farm and created the waterfall, or foss, from which both the valley and farm take their names. The site is only 8 km upstream from Bustarfell farm and quite accessible from there. Go to the right down the hollow just before reaching the Bustarfell gate and drive below the hayfield, but coninue drivingt not farther than Snið. The valley becomes very narrow there, with shrubs covering the steep slopes down to the river; however, the path allows for a clear, easy walk to the abandoned farmstead.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://visitegilsstadir.is/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Foss2.jpg” alt=”Foss” title_text=”Foss2″ _builder_version=”4.7.7″ _module_preset=”default”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″ background_color=”#eaeaea” custom_padding=”14px|||||”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.29.3″ width=”90%” custom_padding=”10px|||||”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.7.7″ header_3_font=”|600|||||||” header_3_text_color=” #889438 “]

ADDITIONAL INFO

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_4,3_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″ width=”89%” min_height=”195px” custom_margin=”10px||10px||false|false” border_width_all=”1px” border_color_all=” #889438 “][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_image src=”https://visitegilsstadir.is/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Foss2.jpg” alt=”Foss” title_text=”Foss2″ _builder_version=”4.7.7″ hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.7.7″ custom_padding=”|10px||10px|false|false”]

Ferðafélag Fljótsdalshéraðs – Tjarnarási 8 – 700 Egilsstaðir – (Pósthólf 154)

Tel: +354 863 5813

Website: www.ferdaf.is

Email: ferdaf@ferdaf.is

Email: info@visitegilsstadir.is

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Foss (N65°33.78 – W15°16.44) The valley of Hofsá river is named Hofsárdalur up to Steinvarartungusporður, above which it has the name of Fossdalur, home to Foss farm.
