N65\u00b024.28 – W15\u00b025.35<\/strong><\/p>\n

Built on land taken from Skj\u00f6ld\u00f3lfssta\u00f0ir in 1841, this was the first farm to be founded in these highlands. Located at an elevation of 482 m, it is however also believed to have been the site of a farm in ancient times. H\u00e1rekssta\u00f0ir was usually regarded as one of the best farms in the community, and, benefiting from some of the broadest and most continuous grassland, supported the most occupants. The first settlers were Kart\u00edn, daughter of \u00deorleifur, who in turn was a son of \u00deorleifur of St\u00f3ra-Brei\u00f0av\u00edk, Rey\u00f0arfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur; and J\u00f3n, son of the farmer S\u00f6lvi, V\u00edkingssta\u00f0ir in Sk\u00f3gar. Serveral H\u00e1rekssta\u00f0ir residents moved to the Armericas, along with their descendents. H\u00e1rekssta\u00f0ir was farmed continuously until 1924, except for a single year of desertion. There is now a sheep herders \u0301shelter at H\u00e1rekssta\u00f0ir.<\/p>\n

Frumbyggjar voru J\u00f3n S\u00f6lvason, b\u00f3nda \u00e1 V\u00edkingsst\u00f6\u00f0um \u00ed Sk\u00f3gum og Katr\u00edn \u00deorleifsd\u00f3ttir, \u00deorleifssonar fr\u00e1 St\u00f3ru-Brei\u00f0v\u00edk \u00ed Rey\u00f0arfir\u00f0i. Nokkrir af \u00e1b\u00faendum H\u00e1rekssta\u00f0a og afkomendur \u00feeirra fluttu til Vesturheims. B\u00fai\u00f0 var \u00e1 H\u00e1reksst\u00f6\u00f0um samfellt til \u00e1rsins 1924 utan eins \u00e1rs sem b\u00fdli\u00f0 var \u00ed ey\u00f0i. \u00dear er n\u00fa leitarmannask\u00fdli.<\/p>
