Hnj\u00faksvatn\u00a0is one of the 30 Pearls of Egilssta\u00f0ir region and refers to some of the most stunning hikes of the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u00a0is a lake on the heath across from Merki farm.\u00a0The plateau on which the lake is located, is characterized by rounded cliffs and moors.\u00a0To reach the lake, you should follow a trail along the Hnj\u00faks\u00e1 river. There you will find a hut,\u00a0Binnub\u00fa\u00f0. Near\u00a0the hut you will find the cylinder with the visitors\u2019 log and stamp. Brynhildur Stef\u00e1nsd\u00f3ttir, a midwife from a farm in the area, had it built\u00a0in 1983\u00a0for those who wished to visit and enjoy the highlands.\u00a0Brynhildur\u00a0loved the heath and the outdoors. She\u00a0used to\u00a0catch\u00a0in this lake\u00a0when she was young. She went across the river with a cable car with her nets and then carried the fish home the same way.\u00a0After she became a midwife, she travelled the heath back and forth to deliver babies, in summer\u00a0on foot, in winter on skis. Brynhildur passed only a few months after the hut was built so she unfortunately never had the chance to use it herself. \u00a0<\/p>\n
