There you will find a hut, Binnubúð. Near the hut you will find the cylinder with the visitors’ log and stamp. Brynhildur Stefánsdóttir, a midwife from a farm in the area, had it built in 1983 for those who wished to visit and enjoy the highlands. Brynhildur loved the heath and the outdoors. She used to catch in this lake when she was young. She went across the river with a cable car with her nets and then carried the fish home the same way. After she became a midwife, she travelled the heath back and forth to deliver babies, in summer on foot, in winter on skis. Brynhildur passed only a few months after the hut was built so she unfortunately never had the chance to use it herself.

See brochure with map here.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″ width=”100%” custom_padding=”||18px|||”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_image src=”https://visitegilsstadir.is/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Hnjuksvatn2.jpg” _builder_version=”4.4.0″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_code _builder_version=”4.7.7″ hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_code][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″ background_color=”#eaeaea” custom_padding=”14px|||||”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.29.3″ width=”90%” custom_padding=”10px|||||”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.0″ header_3_font=”|600|||||||” header_3_text_color=” #889438 “]

ADDITIONAL INFO

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_4,3_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″ width=”89%” min_height=”195px” custom_margin=”10px||10px||false|false” border_width_all=”1px” border_color_all=” #889438 “][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_image src=”https://visitegilsstadir.is/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Hnjuksvatn1.jpg” _builder_version=”4.4.0″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_4″ _builder_version=”3.29.3″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.0″ custom_padding=”|10px||10px|false|false”]

Tel: 4700750

Email: info@visitegilsstadir.is

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Hnjúksvatn (N65°14.333-W15°15.887) // 3 hrs.
