Höttur (Hátúnahöttur) is one of Egilsstaðir’s Pearls, which refers to 30 stunning hiking trails in the region surrounding Egilsstaðir. Höttur is a beautiful mountain which lies in the mountain range between Vellir and Fagridalur and is favoured by many who live in Egilsstaðir. The Egilsstaðir’s sport club is named after it.
Walk from the road east of Gilsá (N65°08,172-W14°31.133), towards Grjótá river by Víðihjalli and up along the river. Onwards and up to Hattarhólar, turn inland and ascend to the top of Höttur (1106 m).
